Music Mood This Recently: Bonggu of Gilgu Bonggu (길구봉구)

It’s been a while since I post things about music. Well… I’ve been so into K-Music recently. 

Don’t get me wrong. I admit that I love boyband like 2AM, 2PM, or VIXX. But most of the time, I like to listen to non-idol groups like LYn, Gilgu Bonggu, Sung Si Kyung, Ailee, Tei, Na Yoon Kwon, and many like them. And since I’m here to talk about my music mood, I want to talk about this wonderful voice that I love recently. 

His Name is Bonggu. he debuted in 2013 with his duet partner Gilgu. Unlike typically K-Idol, this duo didn’t have that wonderful visual (typically slim and flawless face–sorry if this sounds a little bit bias), but they do have a veeeeeeery wonderful voice. And it’s been very hard for them to perform at the stage of music program on TV. So… while waiting for the opportunity to come, these duos do such a great thing outside the idol world. They become a vocal coach and other’s chorus singer. Names like LYn, Wheesung, Sung Si Kyung use Bonggu’s voice in their concert as a chorus singer. you can see their interview in Yu Hui Yeol’s Sketchbook Episode 355 (http://kshow123.net/show/sketchbook-of-youheeyeul/episode-355.html).

Well, I began to notice about this duo since Bonggu starts to participate in a music contest at MBC. It’s called Duet Song Festival. I started to like his voice, not in his first appearance, but after he sang a very powerful upbeat song called Pierrot Laugh At Us (http://jp.channel.pandora.tv/channel/video.ptv?ch_userid=gudtlr930&prgid=54581829&categid=38386927&page=2&ref=ch&lot=cthum2_1_2). And since I watched that performance, I started to re-watch Bonggu’s performance since episode 22 (With Shin Hyo Boem) and his lead from episode 31 to 37 and 40 to 44 and their last performance at episode 47 (King of Kings Special 2).

But what left a very great impression on me is not just his performance at the Duet song festival. He also got the opportunity to participate in a unique singing contest (also at MBC) called King of Mask Singer. He disguises himself with a Gangnam Swallow Nimble mask which actually pretty suit for him. He sang 3 magnificent songs:

Beautiful Night (아름다운 밤) along with Shindong of Super Junior; 

Place Where You Need to Be (니가 있어야 할 곳) and 

I Hate You (미워요) 

These three performances got very high praise from judges and he wins the title as 50th Generation of King of Mask Singer, beat 3 consecutive winners The 

Hoppang Prince (Hwanhee of Fly To The Sky).

I will let you decide is his voice is really that good with a song that he sing when he tried to defend the title at episode 102. He lost it anyway, but lots and lots of people start to acknowledge him and his voice. I can’t post his video or the MP3 coversion of his performance here. I’ll post it in my next post.
