Challenge Day #1: Describe Your Personality

Edit Posted by with No comments
Aah… It started with a tough one. To be honest, I’m not quite sure to share about my personality. Even though I took psychology major on college, I always feel uncomfortable to tell other people about my personality. Why? Maybe because I’m not good to explain about myself to others. On the job interview, this kind of questions are always the hard one to answer (along with question about weakness and strength).

But… Okay. I’ll try to explain myself here (because that is the task). What kind of personality I have? The easiest way to explain (and the most popular one) is by using MBTI personality test. Couple years ago, (when I am still a postgraduate student) one of my friends told me to take an MBTI test on this web:

The results I got is I-N-F-P (Introvert - Intuitive - Feeling - Perceiving).

I’m not quite sure about the result. Not that I said something is wrong with their test, I just don’t feel it is my personality (that Introvert and Feeling-based decision making is mine, the rest aren’t).

So… Years after, I found another online website that provide MBTI personality test. I took it here:

Aaaand… The result is….

This time… I feel it is my personality. Let me tell a little about it.

Introvert

Yes, I’m a hardcore introverted. I know some test say I am an ambivert. The theory also said everybody is both introvert and extrovert. It’s just which polar comes out regularly. Mine is introvert (almost) all the time. I always needs alone time to recharge my energy. I choose to do a solitaire hobby (crocheting, reading book, writing fiction, listening to music, etc). I like to think about so many things. I only have small circle of friendship because socialize drains up my energy. Even though I’m a tutor/student consultant, I prefer to work in solitaire. I think… This tendency is the one that keep me sane through this self-isolation periode. I am a hardcore introvert!!!

Sensing

According to www.myersbriggs.org, sensing is “Paying attention to physical reality, what I see, hear, touch, taste, and smell. I’m concerned with what is actual, present, current, and real. I notice facts and I remember details that are important to me. I like to see the practical use of things and learn best when I see how to use what I’m learning. Experience speaks to me louder than words.” And yes, I am a factual person. My five sense are important to me. Most of the time, I’m paying hard to details. On daily chat, I often correct my friends typoos even I know what they mean with their wrong words. Due to my work as a consultant, I have to explain thing as simple as they can be, and most of the time it has to be practical. Just like my co-facilitator used to say “It is our job to make complicated things looks as simple as it can be”.

Feeling

Harmonious… It is what I always look for. I enjoy watching someone involve in drama, but never enjoy it if it happened to myself. I never want to involve in unnecessary debate (even though I know I’m absolute right). I always trying not to hurt anyone with decision I make (sometimes in the end, I sacrifice myself in order to keep other happy). Learning about empathy on college leads me to always put myself on other shoes first. Nowadays, I can start thinking about myself before anyone else. Because the decision I’m about to make is about myself. Also to my close friend, I also know for giving the advice cold heartedly (not what a Feeling type of person usually do). Because sometimes it is the best way to help them make a decision and resolve their problem (this reason is also based on my Feeling type personality too).

Judging

No, I’m not a type of person that like to judge on anyone. In fact, to me, ‘all people are innocent until proven otherwise’. Judging by MBTI means “structured and decided lifestyle”. Judging-type is me most of the time. I prefer structured activity, doing the planned ahead activity and tends to avoid 'last minutes change’. Oooh… I hate people who cancel meeting (or any other plan) on the d-day. On work, I usually hate when I have to attend a class that originally don’t belong to me (I haven’t teach the class before/didn’t open up the class during the beginning of academic year).

I haven’t read about the whole meaning of ISFJ type of personality. I haven’t read what’s the meaning behind “The Defender”. But as a sensing kinda person, I understand points per points to my personality. But this whole thing from Myersbriggs, humametrics and 16personality help me understand myself better. If you haven’t check it, please do. There’s nothing more fun in this world other than trying to get to know yourself.

Have a great time 💖💖💖💖💖💖
